Concert sound-level measurement and response log

Record the audience reference position separately from the long-term meter position, then track rolling 15-minute readings, output adjustments and audience protection through one event.

Use during commissioning, rehearsal, live operation and closeout of a show with amplified music. The fictional example is for an adult audience.

When to use it

Use during commissioning, rehearsal, live operation and closeout of a show with amplified music. The fictional example is for an adult audience.

WHO’s 100 dB LAeq,15min is an international recommended upper limit at the audience reference position, not a Korean statutory limit or a safety guarantee. Children-focused events need a lower limit. Transcribe the meter’s rolling average for the preceding 15 minutes; this sheet does not calculate sound level or corrections.

When to use it

Use when requesting the audio measurement plan before commissioning, checking positions and correction in rehearsal, and logging live readings and actions.

What to have ready

  • Programme, run times, audience and loudspeaker layout
  • Venue contract sound conditions and the outcome of checking applicable Korean requirements
  • Meter and calibration records, plus the basis for any difference between reference and FOH readings
  • Original meter log and audience-protection plan
  1. The organiser sends programme, audience layout and run times to the audio lead and requests named reference and meter positions and operators.

  2. At rehearsal, the audio lead checks calibration and the relationship between the two positions, then records the correction method and evidence ID.

  3. During the show, transcribe the meter’s reference-position LAeq,15min rolling average and its time. If it approaches or exceeds the agreed operating ceiling, record who adjusted what, when, and the recheck.

  4. Explain earplug use and the quiet area to the audience. At closeout, pass the original log and intervention/recheck record to the operations lead.

  • Reference and long-term meter positions, calibration status, correction decision and evidence are recorded.
  • The event operating ceiling reflects checked conditions; rolling readings, action and recheck times form a continuous record.
  • Audience information and the person receiving closeout records are named.

What to pass to the next person

The audio lead gives the original meter log, calibration and correction evidence, and intervention times to the operations lead, who retains the audience-information record alongside them.
